Strategic Partnership with OSHA

In an impactful collaboration between the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), Central Texas Chapter, we underscore a shared commitment to elevating workplace safety to its highest standard. This partnership serves as a powerful testament to the importance of safety, starting from the highest levels of leadership.

Leadership's Role in Safety Culture

The foundation of a truly safe workplace begins with a commitment from the very top. When CEOs and Presidents stand united with OSHA directors in signing this agreement, it sends a powerful, top-down message that safety is not just a policy but a core value. By joining this elite circle, your company becomes an integral part of a movement aimed at transforming the safety culture within the workforce.

Transforming Culture & Behavior

The partnership with OSHA does more than just highlight the importance of safety; it actively raises the safety consciousness of every individual involved in a project. Through our collaborative projects, we’ve observed a notable shift in how safety is perceived and practiced on the ground. Supervisors and workers alike develop a personal stake in maintaining a secure worksite, fostering a collective responsibility that significantly impacts safety behaviors. Over time, this concerted effort culminates in a profound transformation of the workplace into a setting where safety is ingrained in every action and decision.

Building a Supportive and Stigma-Free Environment

Suicide Prevention Training

ABC Central Texas has embraced the VitalCog program as a key initiative to address mental health in the workplace. This program is designed to break down the stigma surrounding mental health issues and foster an environment where employees look out for one another’s well-being.

Here’s why VitalCog matters:

  • Depression is estimated to cause 200 million lost workdays each year at a cost to employers of $17 to $44 billion
  • In a 3-month period, patients with depression miss an average of 4.8 workdays and suffer 11.5 days of reduced productivity
  • Deaths by suicide cost the US $44 billion annually
  • 70% of those who die by suicide are working age (CDC)
The VitalCog program provides critical training, educating participants about mental health and suicide risks in the workplace. It equips them with practical skills to identify colleagues who might be at risk and teaches them how to respond effectively during a crisis. By implementing this program, ABC Central Texas demonstrates a commitment to creating a supportive and safe work environment, where every employee’s mental health is valued and prioritized.
